Summerfields Railway Charity Day

Cheque for the Keech Hospice

Summerfields Railway Charity Day

By Tony Bullock

Bank Holiday Monday, 28th May 2018 dawned bright and clear as club members prepared the locomotives, rolling stock and facilities for the Charity Day in aid of Keech Hospice Care.

Keech erected a gazebo womanned by them with a tombola table and information about the charity. People began to arrive well before the published first train was ready to depart and a large queue formed at the ticket office.

Trains were soon departing with all coaches filled for the journey to Hammer Hill. Rides on the other trains at Hammer Hill were also carrying happy crowds of children and adults around the circuits there.

The garden railway was operating too, and soon had many spectators sitting by the track enjoying the operation of the fine models on show. The day continued in this way until the final train around 4 pm. As everything was cleared away the weary crews anxiously awaited the results for the charity.

Thanks to everyone who supported this event when all the money paid for train tickets was to be donated to Keech Hospice Care.

On Wednesday 30th. May Sarah Phillips from Keech was welcomed to the club where she met several members and was taken on a trip round the track. On her return to Haynes End Chairman Martin Cusden presented a cheque to her for £1540 for the hospice. A satisfying end to a happy memorable day.
