A New Season

Sunday 6th April saw the start of the 2014 public running season.  The weather forecast was far from favourable but there was an excellent turn out of members.  The Club’s steam locomotive, Loch Treig, was not available needing a number of minor repairs to its boiler fittings.

However, Lewis, the large diesel was ready for action.  In the steaming bays were four members’ steam engines and a number of electric/diesel engines were on hand.

For a change the forecast was not fulfilled as despite a cold wind there was an absence of rain until very late in proceedings.  The public did us proud by turning up in a steady stream so that on occasion there was a wait for a train to return from its travels.  We learned that many of the passengers were visiting for the first time but had every intention of returning.

The Buffet was kept busy with at one time not a seat to be found within the building and hardy souls  outside using the patio tables and seating.

The Springfield and Winterfield lines were also active with a number of trains providing rides.  The cold wind is even more noticeable  in this area so the picnic area was not popular but with new tables and chairs promised for the season it will doubtless be well used as the year warms up.

Congratulations to everyone involved for a job very well done with even our Treasurer wearing a huge smile.
